raindrops and puddle ducks

"Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me"
- B.J. Thomas
With the recent spate of rain not set to go anywhere yet I decided to embrace the weather And my inner six year old self ...

I have been hunting for the perfect pair of gumboots for a long time, I've searched festival stalls, markets, websites, shoe stores and in general every place I had ever come across for that perfect pair of gumboots, just for me.
So resigned to the fact that I was never going to own that cool pair of elusive gummys that I almost walked past the amazing hot pink and orange pokadot creations with orange bows on the front and bright orange soles... in a word - purchase!

In light of the rain and inspired by my new purchase I remembered a simpler time in life when rain was a magical, mythical, sensational event that coincided with pretty knits, pastel tights, and gumboots all the nessary items when chasing rain nymphs & puddle fairies and creating mud pie! MMmmmm

what I'm wearing ~ New black dress (found at St Vinnies Ultimo), Jonathan Aston Cream, tights, tulle and checkers  petite-cote, Vintage pink blazer, Forever New hair clips and 'The' gumboots!

Kitch in the kitchen...

My mother is an amazing woman! No really!
She's like Meryl Streep's character in 'Its Complicated' meets Diane Keatons 'Somethings Gotta Give' performance... common factor? not only are these woman successful and beautiful independent women... they're also fantastic mothers AND AMAZING cooks!

It is no accident at all that my sister gave up jornalisim to write a food blog, Little Pudding  (and botique bakery by the same name), Memories abound of spending afternoons helping mum in the kitchen making piklet mix or curried mince, or  Butter cakes.. 'fold the flour.... dont mix it! fold!!!" to perfect Jaffles 'butter the outside of the bread and cook on the electric fry pan'.

My mothers christmas cakes are out standing... Ussally for at least a month before christmas!! and dont forgett the extra alcohol added very few days to the standing fruit mix!

Her family secret Bolognese is the best (and i'm not discounting the possible hair of dog references) hang over cure ever! And when she can be bribed to cook one, her rice puddings are a thing of ledgend!

The point ?
Cooking for me isn't the passion it is for my mother and sister, its is though something that comes as naturally as riding a bike and for that i feel very lucky!

This week was my brother in laws birthday so I felt inspired to get in the kitchen... patty cakes (butter cakes in general actually, a left-over talent from making them for my grandpa) are something I've always had a talent for and found enjoyable to create.

I also felt it was a great excuse to dress a little like a betty croker and bring out the dangerously cute 50's inspired outfit... with a modern bun twist, check it out below...

p.s- you can also see a patch of mango ice cream being made in the background - its another of my culinary talents -Shhh!

what I'm wearing ~ Yellow Warhol cans Dangerfeild dress, Sportsgirl waist belt, Wittner wedges and seed. sunnies

More soon brandy snaps!

Short stories, boots and festivals

Feeling festive...

When I left off last post I was off to surf the wave ... the wave of sound!

Im pleased to report That the festival known as soundwave once again delivered a solid array of fabulous bands and of course plently of eyecandy both on and off the stage!
I have to say that serious snaps need to be given to Mr Rossdale who STILL looks seriously sexy in a ribbed singlet -seriously Ian Watkins eat your heart out for thoose abbs!

I have to hand fashion snaps to the blokes this year as the female population weather influenced by the presence of hard core acts circa Marlin Manson and Slipnott, were largely over dressed in uncomfortable and impractical ensembles.
Think leather corsets over lace mesh tops, tulle ballet skirts, fishnets and punk platform shoes or lace up boots (and unless Docs come in a healed variety these were not those)
Ladies don't get me wrong theres a place for the goth princess look- it just ain't anywhere near a mosh pit, grassy dance floor or festival in general - save it for hellfire!

so now some notes on good festival attire - number one consider the line up, are these band your going to bop to? will you be chilled out on the grassy knoll with snow cone and a bottle of cider swaying to dolced tones or are you going to be in mosh/ dance pitt at the front of the stage, covered in god knows what thrusting with the might of the 5000 others behind you all wanting to have the front mans babies just as much as you (yes even the guys)... all important questions that need to be answered before deciding on an outfit.

My festival line up looked a tad like this -

Saves the day - bopping start
Heros for hire - more bop
unwritten law- slightly more hardcore angry bopping
Lostprofets - full on jumping action starting to set in
A Day to remember  - Im jump-bopping - yes thats a thing!
Reliant K - major bopping
Bush - swaying and bopping - some cigarette lighter action could be incorporated :P
A rocket to the moon - swaying
Cobra starship - Dancing "good girls go bad!"
Dashboard Confessional - total chill out moment - cider , chips ice cone grassy knoll set!
Jacks Mannequin - still chillin "dark blue, dark blue"
The Used - total return to 2005 mosh dancing! still heart these guys for an awesome performance xx
System of a down - bopping - jumping, cigarette lighters - just everything really- its system!
Angels and Airwaves - chilled at the back on the grass for this - check the pretty shots below ...
Tom still yummy!

What I'm wearing~ Blue button front openbacked Glassons dress, the Dotti hat, k-mart bedazzled canvas slip ons,  new Hot Air  Ballon necklace (i feel an obsession comming on) And vintage pink rayban style sunnies.

Long story short...

I have recently been on a mission to spend a sportsgirl voucher that my loverly aunt gave me for xmas...  you'd think it was easy - apparently not, I have suffered serious issues trying to commit to a purchase!

Jewelry has seemed uninspired, dresses to delicate, blazers not quite the right fit and even the shoes have been MIA in a size 9, Rubbish!

Then I found them - white denim, slight rib -medium short and nice ass hugging back pockets I'm talking about my new white denim shorts...

I know there's a Jessica Simpson Brittney Spears stigma associated with white denim shorts however I feel it my duty to prove that these can be styling and chic not trailer park hick!

See below efforts - these babies are comming to a friday night session near you (Just as soon as it stops raining!)

What I'm wearing~
Red outfit - vintage red blazer, Valleygirl red gingham halter top, the new white shorts and Rubi shoes cream studded bow front peeptoe sling back kitten heals.
black outfit - Sportsgirl tuxedo blazer, Armani Xchange black cotton racer back bustier top, Bulgari sunnies and tan studded T-bar strappy heals from Peeptoe shoes.
black and red out fit- Kitten D'Amor short sleeve bow front button up blazer with previous black top and red Allanah Hill Bow Heals.
Casual outfit - Sportsgirl Pastel Heart print V-neck racer back top with tan plaited belt and Love Story mules.

The Friday...

Its raining its pouring danielle is snoring!!!

No seriously I'm completely over the lack of summer in this summer,
Give me the sunshine- Failling that give me really hot boots!

I have a love of old school (like 1800's) lace up boots - I call these Villennelle Boots after my all time favorite heroin (from jennette wittersons novella The Passion)

I got given these ones a While ago and they were actually way too tall for my short ass legs - what were ment to be over the knee boots looked like crotch boots...
After a breif trip to shoe rehab (also known as coombes in the strand arcade) my former crack boots were reformed to over the knee slight acholo boots.

I love wearing these boots with really girly dresses in pastel or virginal colours with loads of pearls the juxtaposition is entertaining and i really like that naughty feeling you get from knowing your wearing REALLY SEXY boots outside the context of a strip bar!

Ironiclly the spaniard is holding hostage my full outfit pics of my beautiful boots!
Please be patient and I will have these awersome boots as captured in vintage polaroid form loaded asap, in the mean time see the reast of the fun below...

What I'm Wearing ~ Sportsgirl tuxedo blazer, peach 70's inspired baby-doll Don't Ask Amanda dress, Vintage belt from Aunt Jan, beige Jonathan Aston fishnet tights and the Villanelle boots (that you cant see!) also Paspley pearl studs and Thomas Sabo charm necklace.
